How it all started . . . .
An ancient ridgeway path, an iron age earthwork, a Roman Road, these are the early references to what we now call Chilworth. The overlordship of the estate belonged to the Crown but during the 13th Century the Manor passed through many families however, there is no record of the type of house they lived in. In 1812 Peter Searle rebuilt the church at Chilworth and in 1825 conveyed the estate to John Flemming who rebuilt the house in 1904.
The Flemmings sold Chilworth Manor in 1947 and then the University of Southampton acquired the property in the 1960's as a Hall of Residence until 1990 when it was developed into a Conference and Training Centre.
In 2001, AHM a specialist hotel management company acquired the property, now trading as the Hotel and Conference venue you see today with state of the art Leisure facilities which opened in 2007
