Learning - Research - Recreation

The nature conservation area at Chilworth was established in 1989 by the University of Southampton. The area is home to many rare and protected species and has considerable importance for wildlife conservation and education.

It is made up of three areas, Buxey Wood, the Ecology meadow and a seven acre Arboretum.
Look out for the ring (or rather the spiral) of Western Red Cedars in the south west corner beyond the ornamental lake. Also just behind the hotel's tennis court there is a magnificent Cedar of Lebanon Tree, reputed to be the second largest in England.
